Overview
GRNE Solar is a small company founded in 2012 that offers solar energy solutions to commercial and residential clients. It is based in Indianapolis, Indiana, with branches in various other cities.
Solar Panels and Services
Specific Solar Panels Offered
GRNE Solar offers solar panels from various brands, including but not limited to the following:
Trina: Trina solar panels are popular among consumers because of their average prices, high power ratings, and efficiency ratings, as high as 21.9%. The product warranties on these modules range from 12 to 30 years.
Yingli: Panels from Yingli are slightly less efficient than those from Trina. The highest efficiency rating obtainable from Yingli’s product line is 20.7%. The degradation rate of Yingli panels, which leaves them generating 80.7% of their original power output after 25 years, is a bit alarming. However, Trina and Yingli panels cost nearly the same amount per watt.
Talesun: Talesun solar panels cost more than the market average, but some Talesun models have efficiency ratings as low as 16.6%. Also, their product warranties span 10 to 12 years.
Mission Solar Energy: These panels have an extremely high power tolerance rating of -0/+3%. This means that even at their worst, they won’t deliver less than their capacity. And at their best, they can generate power that’s 3% higher than their capacity. Their efficiency ratings start from 18.3%, which is good, while their product warranties correspond to the industry standard.
Specific Types of Solar Offered
Residential solar: The residential solar installations of GRNE have been met with mixed reviews, with some clients hailing the company’s efficiency and others complaining about faulty systems. The connection of these systems to the electricity grid hasn’t placated disgruntled clients, as it appears defects in the systems have prevented them from generating excess electricity that can be sold back to the grid.
Besides grid-tie residential solar arrays, GRNE can install hybrid ones. A hybrid system is connected to the grid but has a backup battery which can power the home during unfavorable weather or grid failure.
Commercial solar: GRNE Solar is capable of installing solar panels on the rooftops or grounds of commercial properties and linking those systems with the utility grid. Neither off-grid nor hybrid installations are available to commercial clients of GRNE Solar.
Utility-scale solar: GRNE installs utility-scale solar systems on vacant land or rooftops. These installations have a very high capacity.
Installation Costs and Processes
The first done is requesting a free estimate of the installation cost from GRNE Solar. If the estimate sits well with the customer, they schedule a consultation with the company’s representatives. Based on the outcome of that consultation, a suitable solar system is designed. Then, GRNE Solar obtains permits to install the solar system from the relevant authorities. If the roof on which the system is to be installed needs any repairs, those repairs are taken care of by GRNE Solar before the system is installed. City inspections follow. If the system passes inspection, it’s switched on.
Cost
GRNE’s solar services are affordable. Its payment options cater to each client’s financial situation through flexible financing plans for those unable to make outright payments.
Legitimacy
GRNE Solar is a legitimate company licensed to operate in Illinois and its surrounding areas. It’s also an approved partner and vendor of Service Finance Company and Adjustable Block Program, respectively. This company is among the noble few participating in the Illinois Solar For All program.
In addition, GRNE is certified by the American Solar Energy Society, Tesla, and the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners. It’s fully insured against theft and other risks. The company offers financing options through Dividend Solar and Goodleap. While some customers have complained about the quality of Dividend Solar’s solar loan policies, Goodleap has received some favorable reviews.
Maintenance
GRNE Solar provides maintenance services to aid the proper operation of solar systems, including those installed by other solar companies. The company backs its installations with a 10-year warranty on workmanship, but it is unclear whether customers will have to pay for maintenance during that period if their systems require such repairs.
Consumers have commended the responsiveness of the company’s representatives before, during, and after the installation of their solar systems.
The SolarEmpower View
We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend GRNE Solar. Excellent customer reviews, combined with ample information and proper licensing, lead to little doubt that GRNE would do a good job on your solar system.
