Sun Solar Overview

Sun Solar is a solar energy solutions provider headquartered in Springfield, Missouri. With over a decade of experience in the solar industry, Sun Solar has enjoyed steady growth over the year and has expanded its reach to five states in the US.

Sun Solar offers services to both residential and commercial customers, and uses a full-service, turnkey approach to providing these services. The company has completed more than 4000 solar installations across Missouri and neighboring states and has assembled an impressive portfolio along the way.

Sun Solar Services and Specifics

Sun Solar systems use n-type or p-type monocrystalline solar panels.

Specific Solar Panels Offered

Based on our findings from external databases, Sun Solar installs solar products from the following solar manufacturers:

Jinko Solar

Jinko Solar is a solar panel manufacturer that sells and distributes its solar products to utility, commercial, and residential customers in multiple countries. In the US, the Eagle G4 is Jinko Solar’s most efficient panel at the time of writing. The G4 has a maximum module efficiency of 21.16%.

Hanwha Q Cells Solar Panels

Hanwha Qcells ranks among the top four global suppliers when it comes to producing high-efficiency solar cells and module shipment, which is an incredible achievement that enables them to remain competitive in the international market. While their price may lean on the higher side of the cost spectrum, customers can rest easy in the knowledge that their investment is being placed in one of the best solar companies and product lineups around.

SMA Solar Panels

SMA has installed over 50 gigawatts of solar products globally and is ranked as a top-three inverter company worldwide. These panels carry the title of “German Engineered” and are designed according to strict specification to ensure optimal performance and durability.

SolarEdge Solar Panels

SolarEdge solar panels are equipped with the company’s own Power Optimizers that are specifically designed for maximum energy production, easy installation, and easier servicing

Tesla

Sun Solar offers Tesla Powerwall power storage systems for off-grid installations so you can store solar energy generated, assuring power even in the event of a grid outage. Each Powerwall holds 12.2 kWh of usable capacity and maintains a 10% reserve so that when the power goes out, the battery has enough power to turn your solar on to get the battery recharged when the sun comes up the next day.

Installation costs and process

Costs

The average cost of solar panels in Missouri is between $2.35 and $3.17 per watt. This means that a solar system that is 5 kilowatts in size would generally cost between $11,000 – $16,500 to install. Sun Solar  does not advertise a specific cost for its solar installation since its system’s costs vary depending on factors such as the design, size, and materials used.

When SolarEmpower looked over the company’s vast amount of customer reviews, there was no mention of how the company compares to competitors in terms of pricing, but there was a trend of customers saying that the company’s sales process is top-notch and that the salespeople are not pushy.

Here’s an example:

“Extremely satisfied with my decision to have Sun Solar out. Everything has been simple and easy on my end. Nathan Hill was real, real patient and always had an answer without the sales spin, I had even asked more questions through texts and got answers immediately. Definitely no complaints.”

However, it is worth noting that with over 350 reviews, the company has also received several negative reviews with customers citing a rude and unprofessional office team, and poor after-sales support.

Sun Solar offers a variety of solar financing options for property owners in Missouri and beyond:

  • Solar Lease: Low monthly payments to add solar to your home or business. Optional buyout after year 7 of leasing.
  • Solar Loan: You can apply for a loan through your local bank or credit union or explore Sun Solar’s loan options, allowing you to finance your solar system even if you cannot purchase it outright.
  • Solar Purchase: With Sun Solar, you can pay off your solar system with cash upfront. Tax credits and rebates will help offset the cost over time.
  • HERO: HERO financing is based on the equity in your home and debt payment history, meaning that a low credit score is not an immediate disqualifier. Missouri is a HERO-approved area and customers can apply for a no-money-down, fixed-rate financing program.
  • PACE: Through the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program, businesses in participating areas can pay for their solar system through their property tax, allowing repayment for up to 20 years on a fixed-rate loan.
  • Referral Program: Sun Solar pays customers and non-customers $1,000 for each referral that results in an installed solar system.

Sun Solar advertises an attractive set of warranties combined with after-sales support to assist with all servicing and maintenance requirements. The warranties include 25-year cover for solar panels and inverters, 25-year workmanship cover, up to 30 years of power output guarantee, and a 10-year cover on the Tesla Powerwall.

While these warranties do look extremely good on paper, we should mention that many customer complaints have been directed toward Sun Solar’s after-sales support. It has been said severally that the maintenance team is difficult to reach and terrible with their scheduling.

Customer service

Based on feedback and research, we discovered the cause of Sun Solar’s poor maintenance services might be a result of being understaffed. We will point out that while the negative reviews do exist, they were significantly outweighed by the positive ones.

The SolarEmpower View

Sun Solar has grown rapidly in recent years and has become a well-recognised name in the solar industry of Missouri and surrounding states. With more than 300 reviews and over 4,000 projects completed, the company is as legitimate as they come. However, there are a few concerns about the company’s processes, specifically regarding after-sales care and ongoing maintenance, which we urge potential customers to keep in mind if they decide to use this company.

Provided their maintenance process suits your expectations, Sun Solar is a fair choice to consider for your solar needs in Missouri.

DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!! Been wait…
DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!! Been wait on them to call me for 2 months on this app They have. They didn't install my panels the way we discussed and when I called they did care. The tax credit that they tell you, you will get is only if you make enough to qualify and being self employed changes it as well. They tell you what ever it takes to make a sale.

I do not recommend!! …
I do not recommend!! I usually am not a complainer, but working with Sun Solar has been one of the worst experiences I've had. The sales portion goes smoothly. My project was to start in Jan 2023, but ended up starting in March, I'm slightly OK with this being staffing seemed to be an issue. The system was to be a one week install, which actually took 2 weeks, then the problems started. Our inspector was fine with the electrical portion, but structurally it was a mess. We had a ground mount system where the poles were leaning in over 1 foot from top to bottom, panels were not sitting square on the frame, so on one corner on the bottom panels overhung less than 1 foot the other end 3 feet. Nuts, washers, and end caps were missing. So I complained, they apologized, and were to get this corrected in a day the following week. They sent a crew out(2 people), took everything back down, squared and leveled the frame; left panels stacked haphazardly (right side up and up side down), some scratched, and the job still not finished. So figuring the next morning they'd be out to finish, nope, more calls back in ....still no working system. I would have given no stars if possible. Horrible experience.

The first week in October…
The first week in October 2022 I decided to go Solar with US Sun Solar. The people I talked to were great, knowledgeable and easy to talk to. By last week in November the 16kw system was installed. Installers did put the inverters in a different spot then I had requested, (plan-set was correct for what I wanted) ohh well I guess. It took a bit longer for the electric Co-Op to come put in the Net meter for the system to become operation. That happened on January 3rd. 2023. Was very excited to see the system working, making power on sunny days, and watching the output increase as days become longer and sun higher in the sky. I had a few questions about the system I had sent emails they never got replied to. Then on February 27th, I noticed a sharp drop in power output. It seems one of the inverters output was down 50% (total system down 25%) from where it should have been. On the Feb 28th I called and talked to someone and they said yeah, we see issue, going to do some tests. On 3/3 I was told a technician would have to come out and diagnose the problem. They were busy but would try to fit me in. 3/17 I called again, asked if I had been put on a schedule, and was informed I had not. I hope this issue gets resolved soon. The excitement of the new system is quickly fading as I get into low energy usage months in spring needed to generate for the higher use in summer/winter, and the system is just barely keeping up. I will update this as the repair process goes. Just a little disappointed in the slow response to a repair of a system that was only fully operational less then 2 months. I just hope it is something simple, loose connection, that won't require ordering parts and waiting even longer.

Another note. I remember the sales guy talking about extra insulation in the house attic, checking door seals, so on. On my Sales Contract it just says "Energy Efficiency : YES" Nothing has been done. Today is 3/22/2023

I’ve been called numerous times by what I’m assuming are sales people. At one point I was in a work meeting, ignored the call, and they proceeded to call 2 more times consecutively. No message. I’ve blocked 2 separate numbers associated with Sun Solar. Y’ALL... chill.

During installation something went wrong…
During installation something went wrong and Sun Solar had to unexpectedly cut our sidewalk, promising to repour the concrete. We had to follow up with them several times to get that done and it was shoddy work. The concrete doesn't match the height of the rest of the sidewalk making it unusable and they left a pile of cement in our grass.

Also something is wrong with the solar panel system and sun solar basically said 'looks fine on our side' and gave up investigating. They didn't even come out to physically look. The issue was supposed to be escalated to another person but nobody has called us back. So now the solar panels are "producing" X amount per the computer, but Evergy says it's Y amount, and instead of getting our bill offset as promised, now we're having to pay double.

I would not recommend working with this company. Granted, they were very friendly and helpful upfront but as soon as the project was nearing completion they started to turn downhill.

My experience with Sun Solar…
My experience with Sun Solar was nothing short of awesome. I was referred by a friend and the next day Kyler the salesman calls me to set up a consultation. At the time I was an over the road truck driver so a meeting with the wife and I together was gonna be hard to do. He set up a zoom meeting and was very knowledgeable and informing. This guy was not your average pushy salesman. He basically laid out the data and said the decision is your just let me know after you and wife have talked. Afew days later we was ready to sign the contract cause it really was a no brainer. After signing we had many questions or concerns and Kyler was with us every step of the way with nothing but professionalism. No matter the time of day or night he was ready. If Solar is something your Interested in I highly recommend Kyle's and Sun solar to do business with
