King Solar Overview
Founded in 1982 and under new management since 2013, King Solar is a small green energy company operating out of Yoder, Kansas. With a long history of service in the central and southern Kansas areas and NABCEP certified photovoltaic experts, King solar has garnered a reputation for providing high-quality solar solutions.
King solar offers services to residential properties as well as smaller commercial installations. Despite its wealth of experience and expertise, it lacks a significant web presence and information about them can be quite hard to find.
King Solar Services and Specifics
Specific Solar Panels offered
King Solar doesn’t provide any information on the equipment and products they use in their installations. When SolarEmpower enquired, King Solar’s representative stated that they do not tie themselves to any particular brand and focus on providing the best solution for every customer’s unique situation. Their website, however, does promise “state of the art” solar panel and inverter technology.
Specific Types of Solar Offered
King Solar offers services for residential and commercial properties, including hybrid, off-grid, and grid-tied systems. They run an in-house turnkey solution, meaning that King Solar will handle the entire installation process form start to finish, from the initial consultation, to an informed design brief, and even dealing with the necessary permits and planning required. King Solar will send their technicians to assist with local inspections to help ensure you have peace of mind.
King Solar has provided both roof-mounted and ground-mounted solutions to a variety of property types, and also offer a variety of battery back-ups and even electric vehicle charging systems. That said, you’d be hard pressed to find these details listed anywhere – we had to scour through multiple reviews to see what King Solar had worked on in the past, as their website is extremely vague about their services.
King Solar Installation Costs and Process
Costs
When asked about their prices, King Solar told us that their in-house service and flexible approach allowed them to provide a quality service at a competitive price. While they might not be the cheapest providers around, their customers tell us that they’re fully transparent about the costs and provide a detailed breakdown of the expenses.
King Solar does not offer any financing options in-house. When asked about this further, they told us that they have a financing partner who can help find more affordable solutions, though they didn’t provide a name. Similarly, although they mention the availability of tax credits and solar incentives on their website, they don’t offer any further details on what their services qualify for.
Legitimacy
King Solar is a legitimate company, with a couple of readily available accreditations:
- A verified license as a Class L Limited Contractor from the City of Lawrence, KS (#BC-23766)
- NABCEP certified Photovoltaic experts
There’s very little information about their certifications beyond these, though. They aren’t accredited with the Better Business Bureau, despite their file being opened in 2004. King Solar’s website also fails to mention any licenses – we had to dig deep to find the Lawrence one above – nor do they mention any partnerships with solar energy companies or association with organisations like the SEIA. When SolarEmpower inquired further, King Solar mentioned that they had a financing partner, but did not give us a name.
Maintenance
King Solar’s website states that they provide comprehensive maintenance and completive warranties for their installations. However, there are almost no details provided, with both being little more than a sentence on their homepage. Nevertheless, customers report long-term satisfaction with their solar arrays and King Solar’s customer service.
When we asked them about their services, King Solar said that their turnaround times might be below industry average due to their focus on sustainable growth. Their reviews paint a different story, with many saying that King Solar was exceptionally fast with installation and maintenance. Their response times are described as ‘lightning fast’, so you can expect any queries or confusion to be cleared up quickly.
The SolarEmpower View
Cost: 7/10 | Legitimacy: 5/10 |
Quality: 8/10 | Customer Service: 8/10 |
We wouldn’t blame you if the lack of readily available information about King Solar put you off their services. With a sparse webpage and a scattered web presence, it’s hard to know exactly what to expect. That said, once you get your consultation, you can expect transparency about the costs and design of your solar energy system. They sport excellent reviews, consistently pushing them toward five stars, with many praising their efficiency, rapid response times, and impeccable expertise. If you’re in the Kansas area, we recommend you give them a look. 7/10.
