Common Energy Overview

An industry leader in community solar, Common Energy supports distributed energy projects all around the nation. Their objective is to top the renewable energy industry with Richard Keiser as their CEO.

Since its establishment in 2018, Common Energy has offered programs that let business owners, tenants, and homeowners promote renewable energy, reduce emissions in their neighborhoods, and save money on their power for nothing on their current utility bill. Their primary goal is to encourage more individuals to convert to solar energy by reducing the cost of their bills. Common Energy strives to serve customers from all demographics as a result.

Common Energy Services and Specifics

Community Solar Projects

Almost anybody can support sustainable energy and save money on their monthly power bills thanks to a new initiative called community solar that has been adopted by states all throughout the country. More than 3,000 property owners, tenants, and businesses have signed up to collect sustainable energy credits from their neighborhood solar project.

The greatest way to explain it was by one client who said that his commitment to living sustainably had motivated him to try out signing up for solar energy. He continued by saying that the moment you join up, you start taking steps to save money. While doing all of this, you are using electricity from nearby solar farms.

Costs

Although Common Energy customers mentioned their rates were a bit high, they raved about the excellent caliber of their goods and services. Customers paid their quoted prices without hesitation, demonstrating that they provide excellent value when compared to other businesses in the area. They don’t provide financing options, so be prepared to pay the price out of pocket.

Overall we were impressed with the good value the company offers. Their pricing is a moot point, but it’s still best to go with Common Energy if you’re concerned with top notch products or services.

Legitimacy

To facilitate communication, Common Energy is open about its contact information. The company’s location, email address, and phone number are all listed on its website, along with a 24/7 support line for its personnel. They take great pride in their NY SEIA accreditation.

The business is regarded as a premier service provider by our specialists. Although all the partners of the firm are not formally mentioned, Richard Keiser, an energy enthusiast with ten years of management experience, is the company’s CEO. Excellent ratings and accreditations for the business attest to its credibility.

Maintenance

Customers rated them extremely efficient and said they were typically easy to contact. One issue the business was able to fix included shifting an installation date.

Over the last year, on…
Over the last year, on multiple different occasions, my bank account information has been used without permission by Common Energy. The first was part of a transition from Central Hudson for almost $1,000 which permission was given for but not for an amount of this large!

During that occurrence A YEAR AGO, I requested for them to remove my bank account information. They did not do this at this time because I was charged again in Sept. I called and they opened a case. I never heard back from anyone. They charged again in Oct, I called back again in Oct. Same thing. And they refused to refund me even though I had paid Central Hudson a substantial amount of money already and told me I needed to go through and reconcile though Central Hudson chaos of billing that they can't even figure out and then I could call back. I requested yet again for my bank account information to be removed and my account closed. Called again today because somehow they charged me AGAIN, over a year later, and guess what - "I can open a case for you." This is absolutely absurd that I can't speak with anyone else at this company than an entry level representative (who I deeply feel sorry for), and they are STILL refusing to remove my information from their system. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR INFORMATION! THEIR BILLING DEPT IS A MESS!

Just to show how ridiculous this is:
5/9/2023 Withdrawal ACH Common Energy -$67.91
10/12/22 Withdrawal ACH Common Energy -$50.83
10/12/22 Withdrawal ACH Common Energy -$48.21
9/21/22 Withdrawal ACH Common Energy -$70.52
9/21/22 Withdrawal ACH Common Energy -$53.39
4/29/22 Deposit ACH Common Energy $946.25
4/20/22 Withdrawal ACH Common Energy -$946.25

EDIT 5/26/23: After I submitted a BBB inquiry for the company, their response is that they did me a FAVOR. What a joke.

I received this comment: "Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for the less than satisfactory experience you have had with our program as a result of the delays your utility company faced. Please note that we have reviewed your account and reached out to you via email and phone call.

We can confirm that we have issued a refund for the $67.91 you were charged on May 9, 2023 and have provided you with $973.87 in savings over the lifetime of your participation in our program. We apologize that you have not been satisfied with the savings you received through our program and our managers are happy to reconnect with you to provide an overview of our dual billing program and how your account has been affected by your utility’s delays."

What is most infuriating is they are going to repeat some gimmicky marketing messaging about how I SAVED money using them. "and have provided you with $973.87 in savings over the lifetime of your participation in our program." Laughable since i OVERPAID Central Hudson and then you took funds WITHOUT PERMISSION, refuse to give them back and are now trying to spin it as if you did me a favor. It's awful.

I have had a very…
I have had a very good experience with Common Energy. After a few glitches, and an ongoing major investigation into Central Hudson billing practices, I think everything will be great! I believe in this company and having energy choices going into the future. The only way to do that is to support start up energy companies. I always get a small break on my bill and money in my pocket is where it belongs. Their customer service is excellent and they are attentive to me and all of my questions are answered in a timely manner.

Wanted out of the program…
Wanted out of the program once they started paying my bill late or not at all but were still charging me. Was told my last charge would be no later than October 2022 but still was charged a week ago. Contacted them and I am still waiting for a response.

After signing up for all…
After signing up for all the good reasons mentioned here, I disconnected with Common Energy in February 2022 (because my local energy provider was also doing the good things that C.E. was doing). It will take until the end of November 2022 to fully disconnect with Common Energy. ... This is absurd. As nice as the customer service people are, I don't want to spend hours over a period of ten months sorting out the complications of disconnecting!

This place is a scam…
This place is a scam that binds you into a contract of dual-payments. You pay both your energy company, and then this place. They save you $20.00 for the cost of $200.00, on top of your power bill. Neat.
